The McIntyre Library at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has a probationary tenure track faculty vacancy available at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Reference / Instruction Librarian – Government Publications with an anticipated start date of spring 2009. This is a 12-month, position reporting to the Director of Libraries.
McIntyre Library has a staff of 12.50 FTE library faculty, and 17 FTE classified staff. The Library maintains a very active information literacy program, provides access to a wide range of digital resources, is a selective state and federal document depository, and includes a regional historical research center and university archives. McIntyre Library has a collection of almost 600,000 titles, 2 million volumes, and 17,000 online and print periodical subscriptions; and works closely with other UW System libraries in keeping with the “One System, One Library” approach to the delivery of collections and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position manages and promotes the library’s collections and information technology to maximize their positive impact on teaching, learning, and research in the UW-Eau Claire community. Additionally, this position oversees the library’s Government Publications Collections.
Reference/Instruction Duties

o Teaches library instruction/information literacy session, including specialized instruction for government information resources.
o Serves as a liaison to assigned departments by consulting and collaborating with students and faculty to meet their information and instructional needs.
o Collaborates with other library faculty in planning, promoting and assessing information literacy initiatives.
o Staffs the reference desk, including some weekend and evening hours.

Government Publications Duties

o Serves as the designated depository coordinator in compliance with the recommendations of the Federal Depository Library Program and the Wisconsin State Depository Program.
o Oversees collection development, access, organization and housing of the government collections, assuring ready access to government information, regardless of format.
o Promotes the use of federal and state documents within the library and to the University community.

Faculty Duties
• Serves on appropriate Library, campus and UW System committees.
• Pursues continued study, scholarly activities, and creative work.
• Participates in professional and community service activities.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent, received by date of hire.

PRIMARY DUTIES

The Director

· Reports to the Board of Trustees: on the services the library offers to the patrons;

building; quarterly budget reports; and other aspects of the operation through

monthly and annual narrative and written reports.

· Serves on the Mayor's Cabinet and appears before the Board of Aldermen as

requested.

· Provides leadership for shaping and implementing the library's mission, vision

and goals. The director supervises the operation of the library: staffing,

maintaining the building, representing the library to the community, interpreting

and administering the policies of the board, and managing fiscal operations and

requirements.

· The director is in charge of hiring, dismissal, disciplinary acts, and evaluation and

training of personnel.

· The director recommends an annual budget to the board, and admini sters the

expenditures of the library, supervises the maintenance of the building and

grounds, recommends improvements and expansions to the physical plant

and/or new construction or service delivery alterations. Makes sure insurance

coverage is adequate on contents of building and liability.

· Maintains liaison with the community at large, the school district and the State

Library system. Is aware of changes to demographics that may impact on the

operation of the library.

· Develops and evaluates plans for lib rary services, evaluating the effectiveness of

the library's services and programs in relation to the changing needs of the

community.

· Administers marketing program and public relations efforts.

· Through participation in professional organizations, attendan ce at conferences

and reading, keeps aware of developments in the field and keeps the board and

staff informed of them. Initiates and supervises uses of new ideas and

technology in service to the patrons.

· Recommends adoption of policies to the board. Keeps the staff informed of board

actions, and supervises the implementation of policies.

· Oversees the programming and public information projects of the library staff.

· Ensures that library practices conform to the Library Bill of Rights and the

Statement of Professional Ethics, and all laws and regulations governing the

library.

· The director is responsible to the Board of Trustees and to the taxpayers of the

City of Nashua for the smooth operation of a library that is dedicated to providing

the best and most forward-sighted library service to the community.

Library Reference Assistant - - Bryant University

Description:

This position reports to the Head of Reference Services at the Douglas and Judith Krupp Library at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. The incumbent is responsible for providing support to the reference librarians, the management of the reference desk during hours when librarians are not available and supervision of evening student workers. This position is also responsible for closing and securing the library building and general monitoring of the facility.

Duties:

Position Description

The Yale University Library welcomes applications and nominations for the 2010/11 Kress Fellowship in Art Librarianship. The Kress Fellowship is intended for a recent graduate from library school who wishes to pursue a career in art librarianship. This fellowship is made possible through the generosity of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. Through this fellowship, the Kress Foundation seeks to achieve in the field of art librarianship what it has accomplished for art history and art conservation: ensuring the growth of the discipline by promoting the advancement of new professionals.

This year the focus of the Kress Fellowship will be on special collections in the arts, which will include experience in collection management, exhibition development and installation, as well as reference. During their tenure at Yale, Kress Fellows are expected to pursue a mutually agreed-upon project resulting in a publishable paper or a new library service. Kress Fellows are also introduced to a broad spectrum of professional activities beyond special collections and may have the opportunity to perform collection development activities, participate in instructional programming and the work of library committees and external professional organizations.

The statement of interest is expected to reflect a genuine commitment to art librarianship and an interest in the provision of information services to the visual arts community. The Kress Fellow will be in residence at Yale for eight (8) months, and will receive an award of $30,000, prorated over the fellowship term. Health insurance will be provided.
