The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth seeks a Collection Development and Acquisitions Librarian to serve as the primary organizational leader responsible for developing, assessing, analyzing, and managing the print, non-print, electronic, and media collections obtained by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Library.
Under the general direction of the Head of Technical Services, the librarian works with colleagues to develop policies, procedures and budget allocations related to collection development; provides leadership for the library’s collection management functions, overseeing policy, procedures, and allocations; and chairs the Collection Development Committee.
Negotiates with vendors and their representatives on all aspects of product and service provision and monitors vendor performance. Manages and monitors the daily operations of the Acquisitions Department which includes maintaining all internal accounting data related to acquiring library materials and the automated functions of the library acquisitions system, placing orders for library materials, and receiving shipments.
Leads participation in cooperative collection development activities with consortia, the UMass libraries and other appropriate partners. Serves as a liaison to appropriate departments or colleges. Participates in other department, library, university, and professional activities, as appropriate.
Minimum qualifications include an MLS from an ALA accredited institution of higher education or its equivalent; three years professional experience in collection development/acquisitions in an academic library; and demonstrated supervisory abilities.
Required is knowledge of core skills, including e-resource acquisition and management, serials control, and approval plans. Enthusiasm about working in a changing environment and ability to effect change in a positive way, strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to work independently and in concert with others, ability to work effectively with culturally diverse students, faculty and staff, and excellent judgment and decision-making skills are required. Experience with Ex Libris acquisitions module is preferred.
Minimum salary: $55,300 at Assistant Librarian rank.
