The Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing the library, assuring effective operation and providing a full array of services to the library customers and to the community. This position may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends including Sundays. Successful candidate may be required to adapt to future schedule and location changes depending on library needs.
- Manages the assigned library to provide effective and efficient service to customers; plans, develops and directs programs that serve the needs of the library service area
- Manages the operation and maintenance of the library's physical facilities and equipment through development of operating and capital budgets; initiates needed corrective actions to maintain fiscal soundness
- Directs and performs effective reference and readers’ advisory services for the library
- Assists in effective library collection management by contributing to a profile of the needs and interests of the library’s customers, which involves researching customer interest, materials availability, and selection advisory
- Performs effective community relations and library promotion activities through presentations and business negotiations with local government officials and various organizations to promote the library and its programs
Requires the ability to supervise staff, enhancing performance and assuring quality public service; manage physical facilities and library collections; administer budgets and fiscal assets; speak and understand English; make personal presentations to various public groups; work cooperatively and have favorable relations with public and co-workers.
These skills and abilities typically are acquired through a combination of experience and training at the post-secondary school level, such as a two-year college degree or equivalent education plus experience, with practical application in library services and involving at least one year’s experience in supervising the work of others. Although this position does not require a Master’s Degree in Library Information Science, applicants who possess an MLIS degree will be considered for the position.

Sno-Isle Libraries is looking for an enthusiastic candidate to provide excellent information and readers' advisory services to all ages and work closely with children and their families. The library enjoys strong partnerships with schools, parents and caregivers, and other youth-serving agencies.
The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate knowledge of current technologies; judgment when using reference databases and print resources; flexibility in trying new approaches to customer service; creativity and enthusiasm when promoting library programs and initiatives; and outstanding communication skills in public and work team settings.

- Plan, develop, and create programs and materials for presentation of children’s programs, including reading programs, literacy improvement projects, recreational reading, and learning programs for various age groups at schools and other community groups
- Provide general readers’ advisory and reference services
- Assist in management of materials collection through assessment and interpretation of customer interests and analysis of review publications
- Maintain and develop reference materials and sources
- Apply computer and technology skills to provide effective customer service, communications and presentations for all ages
- Explain and demonstrate procedures and methods for bibliographic and reference searches
- Explain and assist with usage of library facilities, equipment, rules, and services which may include written and verbal instruction and/or training of customers and staff
- Maintain regular communication with other agencies, institutions and organizations serving children in the community
Requires the ability to use a bar code reader, computer equipment, Internet and standard office equipment; speak, understand and write English clearly and concisely; conduct reference interviews; work cooperatively and maintain favorable relations with the public and co-workers.
Requires a Masters degree in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university plus two years’ experience preferred as a professional librarian. Must have or be able to obtain a Washington State Librarian certificate upon employment.
