Providence Community Library - Youth Computer Instructor

Providence Community Library
Job Title: Youth Computer Instructor

Hours: 6-10 hours per week during after school hours; temporary position.

DUTIES: The Children’s Computer Instructor is primarily responsible for implementing an established, literacy based computer program for children at the Providence Community Libraries. Our specialists creatively teach research methods for using the Web, Microsoft Office programs, and digital photography, as well as explain the basics of the way computers work.
It will be the Instructor's responsibility to develop and adjust appropriate curriculum, teach classes, and maintain program reports. Successful performance demands excellent skills in working with children in grades 3–5. Travel within Providence is required.

BACKGROUND: Providence students have a distinct disadvantage in that the elementary schools may offer little or no formal computer instruction. Most Providence Community Libraries are within blocks of elementary schools and hundreds of children. Libraries are a safe haven for many school age children and because of that we have a unique opportunity to positively affect their lives.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have experience working with children; an ability to explain the parts of a computer, teach Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) and Internet Explorer. A background check will be required. Being creative and fun-loving is a major plus!

HOURLY RATE: $20/hour
