Head of Technical Services--Providence Athenaeum,RI
Description:
The Providence Athenaeum, a private not-for-profit membership library with a rich and vibrant history dating back to 1753, seeks an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our Management Team as Head of Technical Services,Full time salaried position (35 hours).
Duties:
The Head of Technical Services is responsible for
- the management, evaluation, and implementation of efficient work flows, policies, and procedures for the department including acquisitions, cataloging, processing, and participates in collection development.
- As a member of the professional staff, the Head of Technical Services will also participate in the management decisions of the library and supervise staff.
- This position reports to the Executive Director.
Specific duties include - supervision of staff, student workers, and volunteers, professional cataloging, collection development, administration of the Innovative Interfaces Millennium system as well as other cataloging software,
- acts as liaison with Innovative, NELINET/OCLC contract services, library vendors and the RISD staff,
- works in collaboration with our consortium partner the Rhode Island School of Design Library,
- performs acquisitions, processing, technical support activities;
- related budgetary functions and reference desk duties.
Qualifications:
- a M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution,
- 3 years technical services experience at a supervisory level,
- a demonstrated familiarity with current technology trends,
- expertise in OCLC and automated library systems, preferably Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium web-based system, and be knowledgeable in the use of AACR2, MARC records, LCSH and DDC.
- The position requires a person with management experience, and good communication and computer skills.
- Must be flexible to participate in other library or membership related activities that support the mission of the library.
